Botched Circumcisions on the Rise

Recent article details this disturbing trend.

Ouch. According to a recent article in Cookie magazine, botched or partial circumcisions are on the rise. In the piece, Moneer K. Hanna, M.D., a clinical professor of urology at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center, says she sees about four babies a week for recircumcisions and estimates the incidence of partial circumcisions at about 20 percent. How can things go so wrong down there? "Circumcision is not an exact procedure," Hanna said. "The foreskin is pulled, the instrument is applied, and then you cut. If you pull gently, you can leave a little extra." What's your opinion: To snip or not to snip?

We did not circumcise, nor did my sister or my sister in law. Our children are all about 4 now. We have had no problems. Actually, from what I understand, more people are starting to skip the procedure as well. The internet has a ton of information on it & I always suggest that people check it out before they make a decision either way.

I have no idea whats going on with this. I remember when my brother was born 13 years ago his was botched then my 5 year old cousin now my son! Its horrible, it looks like a put out cigarette! when I asked about it when he was about 3 months old at his check up, his pediatrician told me “oh as he loses some of the baby fat, his skin will tighten and pull it back and be normal” WHAT A CROCK! THATS THE DUMBEST THING I EVER HEARD! Oh and by the way, my son is 18 months now and it looks just as horrible as ever. Its not like its any harm however I dont want him to be made fun of in the locker rooms when he is older.

When we found out that we were having a boy I went on the internet and did all kinds of research. Our son is only three weeks old, but we are very happy about the choice that we made. As far as him being made fun of later, I think that more and more parents are making the choice not to circumsize, not to mention that if you explain things to them it will be much easier for them to understand why they look different.

My son is 5 now and he looks like he has not been circumsized although he was at 4 days old. I feel bad for all of the parents going through this but I am glad I am not alone.

Good information! Good to read. I’ve got a small opinion to submit about tee shirts.
