Parachute Pants Still Haunt Us

Wearing the wrong thing to school still sucks for kids.
The Wall Street Journal recently ran a story about fashion "bullies" in junior high. Apparently, kids feel pressured and made fun of when they're not wearing the "right" thing. Say it isn't so!
This is not a new occurence among kids. In fact, many of our Mom•Logic staffers remember being teased about a fashion faux pas (or two).
Andrea, mom to a toddler girl, says she was ridiculed for wearing a plaid skirt with "that oversized safety pin."
"A girl, who was around 17 feet tall (or so it seemed at the time) questioned my choice of Celtic attire. When I told her it was my mom who picked it out, she calmly advised me to run away from home."
Jackie, mother of two boys, says she was always right behind the current trend and her parents thought the knock-off brands were just as good as the real thing. "When everyone was wearing Nike sneakers, I would get the knock-off with the swish going the opposite way. It was social suicide."
