Record Number of Cars Receive Highest Safety Rating

Thirty-four vehicles received the highest safety rating in the latest crash tests performed by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Last year, only 13 made the list. Asian carmakers had the highest number of top-rated vehicles (17), followed by the U.S. (6), Germany (6), and Sweden (5). Auto analysts say the jump in the number of super-safe cars is due to drivers and carmakers prioritizing safety over luxury.
