The 2-year-old girl born with eight limbs survived a grueling 24-hour operation Wednesday to remove four limbs, reports Fox News. Doctors in India say the surgery went well, and the girl can now lead a normal life. In her village, she has been revered by some as the reincarnation of the Hindu goddess of wealth that she was named for. We applaud the doctors for performing the $625,000 surgery for free.

I think the decision to remove those extra limbs was a risky and unnecessary surgery. Before the surgery she was treated as a goddess. People brought gifts to her and came from all over to see her. After the surgery her family was forced to move because everyone in the town was angry that the doctors had taken away their goddess. She was perfectly happy and healthy, except for a small wound at the bottom of what would have been her twins neck. Even though she is still happy and healthy, why take that risk, and why give up being extraordinary and revered?
