"Ecstasy in a Can"

Mixing alcohol with caffeinated energy drinks endangers coeds.
Apparently college coeds are pouring alcohol directly into their energy
drinks, and it's causing them to do all sorts of stupid and
self-destructive things. Researchers from Wake Forest University School
of Medicine found that students who drank these energy cocktails (known
on campuses as "Ecstasy in a can") were twice as likely to be hurt or
injured, require medical attention, ride with an intoxicated driver,
take advantage of someone sexually, or be sexually taken advantage of,
reportsFox News. It seems the high caffeine levels in the energy drinks mask the
effects of excess alcohol—the stumbling, slurred speech or sleepiness
that signal intoxication. So kids get drunk but don't feel drunk,
which causes them to drink even more. If you have a child in college,
call and give them a heads up about the dangers of pouring alcohol into
energy drinks. The two definitely don't mix.
