O'Connor Blesses Husband's New Romance
Sandra Day O'Connor, the first woman to be appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court, is "thrilled" that her husband John—who has Alzheimer's disease—has found love with another woman. Scott O'Connor, the retired justice's son, told sources that his mother is happy his father has met a woman at the assisted-living center in Phoenix where he resides, and that the romance has lifted John's depression and given him a new lease on life. Dr. Peter Reed, senior director of programs at the national Alzheimer's Association, says forging new relationships can be positive for patients with Alzheimer's, although it's challenging to many marriages.
