What happens when online avatar relationships get "real"?
Yesterday, we gave you the heads up on the dangers of your children visiting the Second Life Web site.
Now we have another warning: Check your husbands online history. Adult
users of Second Life are forming relationships with other avatars that
are so strong they're even getting married. Not legally, of course.
We're talking online virtual weddings (which cost real money, but
that's another story).
Just when we thought we only had to worry about whether our husbands
look at porn, a Stanford University survey reveals that nearly 40% of
men and 53% of women who play online games think their virtual friends
are equal to or better than their real-life friends. Hmm.
"It's really devastating," says the wife of a man who has a virtual marriage with an avatar as reported in the Washington Post, "You try to talk to someone or bring them a drink, and they'll be having sex with a cartoon."
