Cops Spy on High School Kids
Thursday, November 15, 2007
New Jersey school has cameras installed that allow police to watch students.
High school is getting more high tech. The Northern Valley Regional School District in New Jersey has set up surveillance cameras with a live feed to police laptops. School officials say it's an effective and necessary way to watch over students in light of an increase in school shootings in recent years, reports WCBS. We say, while that may be true, something about it feels creepy, no?
To address privacy concerns, the cameras are installed only in public areas and don't pick up audio... would you be okay with this surveillance at your child's school?

This is very Big Brother. But I guess if your kid had gone to Columbine, you’d wish this kind of surveillance was available.

It’s not a solution to problems like school shootings and things of that nature. Better parenting and early intervention are what works best in most cases. Bullies will find somewhere else to “bully” their vics. Sex will happen behind a door or at a party. Shootings happen with or without cameras. Will it help with punishment and/or conviction? Probably. But I personally would like to see city and state police funds spent on drug dealers and manufacturers being caught and sex offends put behind bars. Stop the cycle before it starts.

The initiative taken for the concern is very serious and needs an attention of everyone. This is the concern which exists in the society and needs to be eliminated from the society as soon as possible. Drug Intervention New Jersey
