Steve Irwin's Family: How They're Coping
The wife of the late crocodile hunter reveals how she helps the kids deal with their dad's death.
Terri Irwin doesn't want her kids to forget their father. According to AOL, Terri tries to keep his memory alive on a daily basis. "Every day we watch a daddy video while we have breakfast, and for the kids, it's almost like he is still with us."
Are daily videos helpful or harmful to a child's grieving process? Is Terri pushing her own pain on the kids or creating beautiful memories for a family who's suffered a tragic loss?
We asked two Moms in the Mom•Logic office who also experienced the loss of a parent to weigh in:
"Losing a parent at a young age is so confusing. Photos and videos are so important to keep the memory alive. But it seems like having to watch it daily defines a child by their loss. And kids need to let go of the pain sometimes. It's heavy enough without having to watch it with breakfast."
"I wasn't a child when I lost my mom, but I still can't watch videos of her. I can see what Terri trying to do, but it's very hard for the heart to heal if the band aid is ripped off every day."
