Wealthy Children At Risk From Fewer Vaccines

A new study released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta says that death rates for 13 diseases that can be prevented by childhood vaccinations have reached an all-time low in the U.S. But public health officials say that children from wealthy or middle-class American families—whose parents often refuse to get them immunized due to fear of side effects—are now vulnerable to diseases that kill children in poor countries. Ever since the Clinton administration created the Vaccines for Children program in 1994, poor children with no health insurance have been able to get free vaccinations.
