Deck the Halls with Non-Combustibles
Festive Foliage Holiday Safety.

The Consumer Products Safety Commission has come out with its annual holiday decoration safety list, much of it focusing on Christmas trees. That’s good, because dried-out Christmas trees are responsible for at least 200 fires a year.
Um, who's still not getting this? Dry things when surrounded by flames or faulty wiring ignite. It goes along with that other important holiday tip: Don't trim your tree with gas-soaked rags.
Another real hazard of the holidays are those seemingly innocent festive plants that young children sometimes mistake for yummy candy. Mom•Logic friend Safety Dad has some great info about which ones shouldn't be eaten by our curious little elves.
- Mistletoe: The berries on the plants can cause mild cramps, vomiting and/or diarrhea.
- Holly: As with mistletoe, the berries of this festive plant can cause vomiting, diarrhea and cramps. It is also important to watch the sharp leaves of this plant—they can cut the inside of a child’s mouth and throat if swallowed.
- Poinsettias: Eating these can cause a stomach ache and irritation around the mouth area.
Thanks, Safety Dad!
