Mercury Mascara: Did you know there's mercury in mascara? We didn't either, until now. The Associated Press reports that mercury is added to some eye products as a preservative and germ-killer. Federal law allows eye products to contain up to 65 parts per million of mercury, but mercury can retard brain development in children and fetuses, who are most vulnerable to the metal's toxic effects, and can also cause neurological symptoms in adults. Since we all wear mascara in the office, we're particularly concerned—stay tuned for further updates.

Totally Tubular: An advisory panel to the Food and Drug Administration recommended on Thursday the approval of a new method for sterilizing women (called "Adiana") that would give them another option to tubal ligation, reports CBS News. This alternative procedure takes about 15 minutes and uses radio signals to create a lesion inside the fallopian tube. A catheter delivers a soft material smaller than a grain of rice into the tube. Healthy tissue then grows on and around the material to create a permanent blockage.

Saturated Fat Not So Bad?: MSNBC and Men's Health report that contrary to popular belief, no one's ever actually proven that saturated fat clogs arteries or causes heart disease. Could this mean that butter's actually good for us? Fingers crossed.
