A coloring book from the Archdiocese of New York warns children against sexual predators.

In the wake of the Roman Catholic Church sex scandals, the Archdiocese of New York has created a coloring book warning children about sexual predators. Being Friends, Being Safe, Being Catholic, for first to fifth graders, (there’s also a comic book for older kids) has been distributed in the New York area as part of their Safe Environment Program.

On each page, (the image to the left shows a portion of one) a guardian angel dispenses advice to children about unwanted adult attention. “For safety’s sake, a child and an adult shouldn’t be alone in a closed room together,” explains the angel. She also warns against making new “friends” on the Internet.

It’s all good advice presented in an appealing way for children, but critics say the book fails to acknowledge the sad fact that some of the pedophiles the book warns against reside within their own flock.

What do you think?

Does anyone else see the irony here? What’s next the “How To Stay In The Closet” board game?
