The Kid is Vomiting. Keep on Driving?

Thursday, January 31, 2008

Some Moms say: 'The world is unjust.'

Okay, you're driving and your 3-year-old starts vomiting in the backseat. You pull an illegal U-turn, and before you know it, a cop pulls you over and actually gives you a ticket! Yes, it happened to a Florida Mom who received a $123 ticket for doing just that. Should the cop have had more compassion, or should Mom have followed the rules and just kept on driving? What do you think?

As a former police department employee, I can say that a lot of cops are control freaks with huge egos and a slight to enormous god-complex. Most are not this way. But it sucks when you get stuck with one of them. You can tell them apart by the awkward walk they develop from lugging around such a huge chip on their shoulder.

Couldn’t she have just pulled over? Was the U turn really necessary?

Keep driving. The throwing up has already begun. If it’s an illegal u turn, then it’s illegal because it’s dangerous to do it at that intersection. How would your 3 year old feel if he was vomiting and hurt in a car accident. She could have made a left and pulled over.. or just pulled over to the right. That being said, the cop should have given a warning.

She owes it to her child, herself and the other road users to concentrate on driving safely. The fine sounds harsh but people lose their lives every day in avoidable accidents because they stop concentrating on driving. Having lost a friend to a lady who was so busy telling her kids to behave themselves that she took her eyes off the road and ended the life of a man at 23 I know the terrible cost of allowing your priorities to get messed up.
