A video game helps children deal with devastating effects of cancer.

Have you heard there's a video game that helps kids fight cancer? It's called Re-Mission, and it's developed by a non-profit called HopeLab. In the game, kids lead Roxxi, a gutsy and fully-armed nanobot, through challenging missions and rapid-fire assaults on malignant cancer cells, wherever they hide. According to HopeLab, teenagers and young adults with cancer participated actively throughout the game development process to ensure that the game was fun, but also really spoke to the issues that they confront every day in their fight against cancer.

But this game is not only fun...it's medicinal. In a trial study, researchers found that playing Re-Mission improved quality of life, self-efficacy, and cancer-related knowledge for adolescents and young adults with cancer. In addition, young people who played Re-Mission maintained higher blood levels of chemotherapy and showed higher rates of antibiotic utilization than those in the control group, indicating that Re-Mission helps patients adhere to cancer therapy regimens. What an awesome and powerful game. Kids with cancer can download the game for free here.
