Celebrity babies mean big bucks for magazines.

Jennifer Lopez, Halle Berry, Nicole Richie and Jamie Lynn Spears are all expecting this year, and media outlets will be champing at the bit to deliver the first photo of their babies. It's no secret that magazines make money off this kind of news. According to The New York Times, it's "widely assumed in the publishing industry" that Jamie Lynn will receive $1 million from OK! for the first photos of her and her baby. And USA Today just ran a story about the media attention swirling around celebrity babies.

We here at Mom•Logic, like many others, love to see photos of Suri, Apple and the other star kids. And the thought of a little Halle Berry makes us smile... but... a million bucks for a teen pregnancy story? What do you think?

What mother in her right mind would SELL pictures of her baby to a national tabloid? I am so sick of seeing celebrities make bank off their children, especially when you have other celebrities fighting paparazzi to keep them from taking pictures of their children (ie: Julia Roberts, Jennifer Garner). I will not buy OK Magazine - Jamie Lynn Spears should be not be rewarded for being irresponsible and making bad decisions. I understand she is not the first, and will not be the last, teenager to get pregnant - but I don’t think teenage pregnancy should be socially acceptable. She should learn there are consequences to her actions, and those “consequences” do NOT include making $1 million.

Kudos to April, I agree wholeheartedly with everything she said. Everyone makes mistakes, her actions being the mistake not the baby mind you, but to exploit it as acceptable and profitable is just horrible. It’s no wonder that teen pregnancy is on the rise, and the thought of marriage being a result of pregnancy or not being considered at all by couples who are expecting is considered the norm. If she had a brain in her head she would stop promoting it and use this time to make herself an asset to society instead of glorifying her sad situation as she continues to influence the lives of millions of young girls.
