Definitely not something you want on your child's permanent record.
First, we brought you our exclusive Momvestigation about teens having sex in schools. That was shocking in itself. But now, some teens are taking it a step further and making sex tapes at school. Yes, you read that right— sex tapes on school grounds! WTF?
According to Newsday,
a 19-year-old high school student at Thomas R. Proctor High School in
Utica, N.Y. was charged with possession of "a sexual performance by a
child," after digitally recording a juvenile female student performing
a sexual act...
on a male student in a high school bathroom during school hours. The three students knew each other, and there was no force involved with either the recording or the sexual incident, police said. They were all suspended for five days and then placed in an alternative education program.
For Moms of teens and tweens, this story is a good springboard for a conversation about why you should never put yourself on tape doing anything racy or sexual. "Teens should know that there is no privacy once something is on tape," says friend of Mom•Logic and attorney BJ Bernstein, president and founder of MyFifth.org.
"Even if someone tells you they'll never show it to a soul, that's no
guarantee. All someone has to do is push a forward button on their cell
phone or on their e-mail, and the footage can end up in places you
don't expect."
And BJ says if the police do get involved, they can often recover files even if they've been deleted—and that can be used against you. "Never put yourself on tape like this," she warns teens. "Not even one time."
