Julie's Mom•Logic: Here's what happened when I attended this monster of a movie premiere.

Yesterday, I made pasta for my kids, put on a very high pair of heels, and headed to the Paramount lot in L.A. for the premiere of the giant monster movie Cloverfield. So did Lindsay Lohan, Ashlee Simpson and Ashley Tisdale. Watching Lindsay pose for the ocean of flashbulbs is an experience hard to understand. The photographers yell. The celebrities pose. More yelling, more posing. Wait, that sounds like a game my kids play running around the house.

As I watched the cast of the film walk down the gauntlet of photographers, I wondered if they are truly prepared for the glare of the spotlight. Lizzy Caplan, Jessica Lucas, Odette Yustman, T.J. Miller, Mike Vogel, and Michael Stahl-David had to run from a giant monster in the film and now will navigate the exciting and treacherous world of being a Hollywood celeb.

Once inside the theatre, we were seated in front of Lauren Conrad and Audrina Patridge of The Hills. Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag were safely seated on the other side of the theatre. If you don’t watch the show, ask your teenagers, they can fill you in on their catfights and feuds. Lauren and Audrina spent much of the film covering their eyes and cringing. That is just the reaction that the film-makers had in mind.

The film is fun and scary. It’s rated PG-13 for a reason. Many scenes are eerily reminiscent of 9/11, showing disaster and mayhem in Manhattan, all to remind us that in these uncertain times there could be a huge, terrifying creature out there. For now, my kids and I will stick with Leonardo and the Terrible Monster.

Cloverfield opens nationwide in theaters today.
