Obama and Huckabee Win Iowa in Record Caucus Turnout
Barack Obama made history yesterday as the first black candidate to win the presidential caucus in Iowa. The Iowa Democratic Party reported that there were at least 227,000 caucus attendees—a record. (In 2004, only 124,000 Democrats participated.) Obama received 38 percent of the vote, beating out rivals John Edwards (30 percent) and Hillary Clinton (29 percent). Mike Huckabee was the GOP winner with 34 percent of the vote, trouncing Mitt Romney (25 percent). Fred Thompson and John McCain followed with 13 percent each.

No Hospital Needed for Children with Pneumonia: Study
Treating children who have severe pneumonia with oral antibiotics at home works just as well as treating them with IV drugs in the hospital, according to international researchers. Each year, pneumonia kills approximately two million children under age five globally, because many can't afford to go to the hospital or can’t reach one in time.

Lindsay Lohan Falls off the Wagon on New Year’s Eve
A video of Lindsay Lohan drinking champagne out of a bottle on New Year’s Eve was posted online yesterday. In response, Lohan’s lawyer, Blair Berk, said, “After being handed a champagne bottle while on a dance floor in Italy on New Year's Eve and drinking from it, the good news was that Lindsay stopped herself that night, called her sponsor, and got herself immediately back on track. There is no magic cure here. Unfortunately, Lindsay has to share her 'one day at a time' with the entire world.”

Author of The Stinky Cheese Man Named First Children’s Laureate
The Children’s Book Council and the Library of Congress’s Center for the Book have made Jon Scieszka the nation’s first children’s laureate. Officially dubbed the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature, Scieszka will spend the next two years trying to get kids more excited about reading. Next month he introduces his new toddler series, Trucktown.

Vanessa Hudgens Thankful for Mom's Support
Naked photos of the High School Musical star—meant for boyfriend Zac Efron's eyes only—were leaked online in August, and Hudgens now credits her mom with helping her make it through that difficult experience. Hudgens told Seventeen, “[My parents] know I’m a teenager, and yes, kids do stupid things sometimes.”
