Suspected Killer Spotted in Mexico
Marine Corporal Cesar Laurean—the main suspect in the murder of eight-month-pregnant Lance Corporal Maria Lauterbach—has been spotted in Mexico. Laurean’s cousin says Cesar stopped by his liquor store in Zapopan last week and told him he was just passing through and wanted to say hello.

Amy Winehouse Says “Yes, Yes, Yes” to Rehab
Yesterday we reported that the British singer was caught on-camera allegedly smoking crack. We have since heard that Winehouse has left her London home and headed to a private clinic. Hopefully this decision will lead Amy on the path to recovery and put her parents' minds at ease.

“Thomas” Toymaker Settles Lead Suit for $30 Million
RC2 Brands, the maker of Thomas & Friends toys, has agreed to pay $30 million to settle a class-action lawsuit representing hundreds of thousands of families. The toys were recalled last year after it was learned that they contained lead. Once the agreement is approved, class members can receive cash reimbursements and bonus toys. Hey, how about giving back the $300 we forked over when we bought the entire set?  

Obesity Surgery Can Treat Diabetes
A new study has found that weight-loss surgery is more effective than standard medical therapy in treating Type 2 diabetes in obese people. Seventy-three percent of the patients who underwent surgery had complete remission of diabetes; the remission rate in those receiving conventional treatment was only 13 percent.

Writers Make Concessions; Won’t Picket Grammys
It's been 12 weeks since the walkout began, and there finally seems to be an end in sight to the contentious Writers Guild strike. In a major concession, the writers have agreed to drop one of their demands regarding residual compensation for reality and animation work; they also said they won't picket the February 10 Grammy telecast.
