Heath Ledger’s Ex, Michelle Williams, Returns to New York
Grief-stricken actress Michelle Williams and her 2-year-old daughter, Matilda, returned home to Brooklyn late last night. Williams was in Sweden filming a movie when she learned of Ledger’s passing. The couple parted ways in September, but agreed that their main priority was raising their daughter.

Incubator Fire Burns Premature Baby
A premature baby boy was wearing an oxygen hood in an open-topped incubator yesterday when the hood caught on fire, badly burning his head and face. The baby survived and is being treated for second- and third-degree burns in a Minneapolis-area hospital. The boy’s parents have not been identified, but are said to be doing “remarkably well under the circumstances” and are focused on letting their child heal, according to attorney Chris Messerly.

Radio Station Cancels “Win a Date with Drew” Contest
Former police sergeant Drew Peterson—whose fourth wife, Stacy, has been missing for months—appeared on Chicago's WJMK-FM yesterday and agreed to return today to play a dating game. But station management pulled the plug on the idea, saying they never intended to do such a contest. Stacy's family and friends say this is no laughing matter. “The whole ordeal further damages Peterson's reputation,” says friend Pamela Bosco.

Congress Crunching Final Numbers to Jump Start Cash Flow
Democrats and Republicans worked late into the night to iron out details of the emergency economic-stimulus plan that will send rebate checks to millions of Americans. Once Congress reaches an agreement, it will take several weeks to cut the checks. (By then, our 2007 taxes will be due and we'll have to give all the money back!)

Leapin’ Lettuce!
A Brooklyn mom and her 7-year-old daughter were shocked to find a little green frog napping between the leaves of a head of organic lettuce. Yvonne Brechbuhler and her daughter, Orla, took the frog to a Brooklyn animal facility, where it’s now up for adoption. Anyone interested in taking home an amphibian who enjoys sleeping in a bed of salad greens can click here for adoption information.
