A new study says this cheap, homeopathic remedy can cure a cold.

When we heard today that saltwater cures the common cold, we were thrilled. After all, we can no longer give our kids under 2 cold medicine, so we're grateful for any safe way to relieve their symptoms. However, we must admit we were mildly skeptical. Would it really work? We asked friend of Mom•Logic and pediatrician Dr. Gwenn for her take on the matter. Does saline nose spray really work, or is this all just B.S.?

"Saltwater has long been known to alleviate cold symptoms," she says. "I commonly recommend saline nose spray for patients of all ages to help with congestion. It really helps decrease the inflammation in the tissue and loosen up what is there. Plus, it is cheap and easy to use. Most patients, including young ones, don't mind it."

Note to self: Add saline nose spray to the grocery list.

I just heard about “neti pots” from my sister in law… basically saline solution rinses out your nose. I’ve got to try it.
