Here's a parenting tip from clinical psychologist Dr. Pamela Varady.

Ifyour child lies, don't acknowledge or question it: For example, when your child says he brushed his teeth when you know he hasn't, simply reply, "Whether you've already brushed your teeth or not, please go do it again." Perpetuating the lie just teaches kids to lie better.
