This wasn't exactly the kind of delivery this first-time Mom was hoping for.
When Charryse Brooks, 25, of Norwood, Ohio fantasized about her impending birth, she thought about a warm, cozy hospital bed and that all-important epidural. But never in her wildest dreams did she imagine she'd give birth in her own driveway. Yet, her husband tells Mom•Logic that's exactly what just happened to her...
On Sunday, Charryse gave birth to 4 pound, 3 ounce Mackenzie Nichole. In her pants.
"We had gone to the hospital around 2:00 a.m., because Charryse's contractions were five minutes apart," says Charryse's husband Tim. "She wasn't due until February 22, and the hospital decided she was not in active labor. They sent us home at 5:00 a.m."
By 8:00 a.m., Charryse was in excrutiating pain, bouncing on her pregnancy ball like mad. So Charryse and Tim decided to go to the hospital--but they didn't make it too far.
"We headed for the car and Charryse said she needed to push," Tim recalls. "She said, 'The baby is coming!' In a panic, I told her, 'Not now! Not here!' But as I unlocked the driver's side door, Charryse looked straight up at me and said, 'Tim, the baby's here!' She was wearing my loose-fitting jogging pants. I saw her reach down with her left arm, and she had the baby sitting right there in the jogging pants!"
The shocked couple hightailed it to the hospital, where the umbillical cord was cut and the baby was deemed healthy. Welcome, Mackenzie! She'll always have a fondness for fleece.
