Guest blogger Rolemommy, Mom of 2, weighs in on the Oscars.
I don't know about you, but I was all excited to tune into the Academy Awards last night. I couldn't wait to watch my favorite film stars adorn the stage in dazzling designer dresses and diamonds that were out of this world. What a letdown. I thought the awards themselves were a complete and utter bore!
Okay, I'll admit--I've only seen Ratatouille, Enchanted, and Juno at the movies this year. Maybe that's why I was so utterly uninterested when people I'd never even heard of won for movies I'll probably never see. And their speeches went on and on and on..."And I'd like to thank my agent, my landscaper, the pool guy" ...blah, blah, blah! I dozed off a half hour before it was even over, but I really don't think I missed a thing.
My kids were excited to see Hannah Montana and The Rock present awards. And we all got a thrill when they panned to "that guy who played Willy Wonka" in the audience. (Hello, Johnny Depp!)
Perhaps next year I'll make it a point to watch all the nominated films. Then maybe I'll get more excited when John whats-his-name wins for best directing for a foreign film short. Then again, maybe I won't.
