Advice from our pediatrician, Dr. Cara Natterson, on when it's OK to call your doctor after hours.
Cold and flu season has been ravaging our kids--is it spring yet? It's so hard to know if your kid is suffering from the common cold or something more serious. Have you ever clutched your pediatrician's phone number late at night wondering, "Should I call?"HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

That’s the thing I love about the doctor we use. He’s at a 24 hour pediatric clinic. So even though we don’t get to see him for that late night jaunt, we do get to see somebody on his team, who’s also a pediatrician and has access to all his records. Plus, record of that is there for his pediatrician to view if needed.
If I had have had access like that my little boy would still be alive, there was no pediatrician for the hospital to call in and they wouldn’t call in a xray technician until the morning and on the way to xray he died of a intestional obstruction, he was 4 1/2 years ols. My life was destroyed on that day. Be very grateful that you have decent health care, it means the world - literally. They say Canada has the best medical system? Not where I live. I would have paid the money for the tech myself had i known at the time.
Doctors chose to become doctors and inturn it is their reaponsibility to be available for an emergency - ESPECIALLY when a child is involved if they wanted a 9-5 job they should have become a car salesman or a teacher for example. I would never be afraid to call my doctor at home now, I learned a very very hard lesson, one that cost me everything. I hope anyone reading this will thing twice about hesitating.
