When an irate Mom wrote about a car rental chain with shoddy car seats, it lead to a TV news investigation.

When Debbie Dubrow wrote in her blog, Delicious Baby, about a car rental company whose car seats were outdated, defective and downright hazardous to a child's health, she never imagined it would lead to an undercover investigation and story by two ABC television stations. But sometimes, as Debbie told Mom•Logic, all it takes is one mom on a mission to effect change--even at the car rental counter...

With Debbie's help, last weekend ABC stations in San Diego and Seattle found car seats that were discontinued, covered in fecal matter and missing safety harnesses. After the broadcasts, the company, Advantage, vowed it would replace defective and outdated car seats with newer models at all of its locations.

"It's personally rewarding to see Advantage make a huge change," Dubrow tells Mom•Logic. But while she'd consider renting a car seat again, she still has concerns. "Initially, I thought we just wouldn't do this with a discounter again, since we had good experiences with Avis and Hertz. But so many parents wrote to me telling me they've had problems with agencies across the board. It's hard as a parent to know what is the right thing to do."

Are you comfortable renting car seats, or do you just feel more comfortable bringing your own on vacation?
