The Hidden Poison in Your Family's Food

An alarming new study found pesticides in kids' saliva and urine...and we're pissed.
You know those Moms who only give their kids organic everything? The
no sugar, no wheat, dairy free, "my kid can't digest it" Moms? They
might be on to something: A study found that kids who ate fruits and
vegetables from supermarkets had pesticides in both their urine and
saliva—how scary is that? Chensheng Lu, an authority on pesticides and
professor at Emory University, told Seattlepi.com,
"Once you switch from conventional food to organic, the pesticides that
we can measure in the urine disappears. The level returns immediately
when you go back to the conventional diets." Yikes!
What can Moms do to protect children?
• Don't stop feeding kids fruits and vegetables out of panic. Lu says a diet that does not contain these foods could eventually lead to more serious health problems such as juvenile diabetes and childhood obesity.
• Buy organic produce when possible.
• Wash produce with a natural, non-toxic product such as Veggie Wash.
• Shop at farmer's markets. "Consumers should be encouraged to buy produce direct from the farmers they know. These need not be just organic farmers, but conventional growers who minimize their use of pesticides."
Will this study change how or where you buy fruits and vegetables for your family?
