Buy This or You're a Bad Mom

Is technology trying to scare the crap out of us?
As parents, we worry about our kids constantly. And when it comes to their development, we can be completely consumed with fear! Doesn't it sometimes seem like companies count on our insecurities and create products that just feed into it--forcing us to buy them in the name of being a good parent?
The NY Times recently featured a $400 device called LENA (language environment analysis), which is hidden under kids' clothes and is supposed to record sounds and evaluate a child's language development. Is this a technological breakthrough, or just another product that preys on a Mom's fears while emptying her pockets?
My parents speak fine as well as my grandparents and myself. I am 26 with 5 kids and none of them have speaking issues. So if we all survived without LENA then I think Diapers and the essentials are costly enough that I don’t need LENA to add to it.
The article said it right - “just another product that preys on a Mom’s fears while emptying her pockets”!!!

What is the world coming to? For sure this is another way to make moms uneasy and fear for their child’s upbringing, all while taking her money. Just more scare tactics. Leave the kid alone, they will be just fine if u give them love, attention and oversee their development stages. There’s no need for this devise, eavesdropping on your kid it will only make them resent you in the future.
