Mom of two shares amazing story of giving birth to a daughter who was nearly her size.
Mom•Logic: Did you ever think you'd be able to have a child?
Stacey: My whole life I was told I couldn't have children. When my husband and I married, we discussed what the doctors had said. My husband and I are really into church, and we read books about faith. The stronger our spirit got, the stronger our hope got. My pastor recommended a book called Supernatural Childbirth by Jackie Mize. The book has inspirational stories of how people stepped out into faith, put faith in God, and had miracle babies. Makya was a little harder on me because she was twice the size of Kateri. She was full size and full weight. Kateri was born at 2 pounds, 1 ounce. Makya was 4 pounds, 7 ounces. I gained less than 10 pounds with my first, and 20 pounds with Makya. The physical reality is that it's impossible for my body to have carried an 18 1/8" baby. It wasn't me. I stepped out in faith.
Mom•Logic: After having been told you'd never be able to have children, what was it like holding your daughter for the first time?
Stacey:I have a photo of the first time I saw Kateri. I cry looking at the photo. It's so overwhelming. You see the ultrasound, hear the heart beat, you feel them kick, but seeing them with your eyes, touching them, and holding them... it floors you! There's no way to describe it. It was just amazing.
Mom•Logic: What is your message to other Moms out there?
Stacey: People need to believe, step out in faith, and believe in God. If you've got something inside you that's telling you, "You can do this" it's the voice of God, and you need to believe that. There's nothing stronger. Doctors told me all my life I couldn't have children, but I proved them wrong, twice!
