A Voting Mom's Guide To Health Care
Political reporter Mom Ronda Kaysen: This election, it's all about health care.
It's health care, stupid...
In the last Democratic debate, Hillary and Barack sparred over health care for a mind-bending 16 minutes until a flustered Brian Williams suggested they move it along. If the 2004 presidential election was a referendum on Iraq, 2008 is a referendum on health care. For voting Moms, here's a breakdown on the four candidates' health care plans.
Hillary Clinton: Covers every American with a mandate. Subsidized by employers and the government, she'd bankroll her plan with cash collected from rolling back tax cuts for wealthy families and savings in the existing system.
John McCain: Opposes mandating coverage. Supports a free-market, consumer-based system and argues universal health care is possible without a mandate or a tax hike.
Barack Obama: All children would be covered under their parents' plans. He'd pay for it with the windfall from rolling back President Bush's tax cuts for households earning over $250,000.
Mike Huckabee: Would not mandate coverage. Supports a free-market, consumer-based system and opts to make health care affordable through tax credits and cost-controlling measures.
Whose plan do you get behind?
