Church Turns Child into Monster?

Jackie's Mom•Logic: I grew up Catholic, but my son's a practicing narcissist.

Narcissism is a common trait in 3-year-olds, right? It's not their fault--at that age, the world really is all about them. But isn't it our job as Moms to show them that there's more to life than their needs and teach them to be mindful of that?

I decided it was time to bring my little guy Jacob to church--and to be perfectly honest, make an appearance there myself on a day that wasn't actually a holiday. So off we went...

When it was time for the reading, I picked up Jacob and whispered, "That man is going to tell us a very important story." Little did I know, the day I picked for our church-going debut was the day the reading was all about 'the Samaritan woman at Jacob's well'. My son smiled smugly while listening intently to the story he thought was being told especially for him.

Oh well, I tried.

Jackie, the best way to influence your children’s beliefs is to practice them yourself. If you give up after one try at church, you’ll send the message that it really isn’t that important to you after all.

Thanks for the comment. :) I haven’t given up… “oh well, I tried” was just for the story’s sake. It takes more than that to wear me down. :)
