Doesn't This Goldfish Deserve Better?

Web site sells all the supplies your kids will need to give their small pet a proper burial.

Hey goldfish owners--before you start preparing a burial at sea for Little Flipper, we've discovered a site where your child can actually take part in their pet's funeral arrangements. Included in the $12.50 small pet funeral set is a cardboard coffin, paint kit and rock that your child can use to design their canary, guinea pig or hamster's headstone. Also enclosed is a prayer and poem book your child can read as they bid farewell to their furry, feathery or slimy friend. Some of our favorite poems include: "They Say You Were Just a Fish," "You Had a Squeaky Wheel," and "I Wanted a Dog But I Got You."

Do you think a funeral kit would help your kid cope with the loss of a little pet, or will a toilet bowl send-off or shoebox burial suffice?

When my parakeet died, my Dad had an official funeral for it. She was buried in a check box with a cross over her grave. It actually helped me a lot, though I can still remember coming home and finding my pet dead 20 years later. A pet funeral can definitely help cope with the loss.

I think it’s a great idea. It’ll help the child deal with the loss. Not sure about the prayer/poem book. Looking at the titles it seems to be firmly tongue in cheek!

This is a great idea. Every living thing deserves a proper goodbye and I like the idea of adding a little humore to a potentially tough situation for a child. Good job!
