Moms Are Talking About...

Ellen named #1 host: A new poll from AOL finds that Ellen DeGeneres is the best talk show host on television today. Oprah was a distant second, only getting 19% of the vote.
Internet addiction hurting your sex life?: 37% of laptop users are connecting to the Web and not their partners in the bedroom, according to a new study. What's more disturbing is that 68% of Americans say they experience anxiety if they can't send emails or access the Net. Take note: The anxiety that goes with divorce is much worse. Log off the computer and on to your spouse.Teens keep pumping up the volume: A new study finds that teens know that turning up the volume on their MP3 players can cause hearing loss, but don't seem to care. This is not a new issue between kids and parents--wasn't this actually on an episode of Happy Days?
Car cams monitor teen driving: DriveCam allows parents to monitor their young drivers when they're not in the car. Videos documenting any dangerous behaviors are emailed to Moms and Dads, along with a weekly performance report on their new drivers. Takes spying to a whole new level.

I happen to be the CEO of DriveCam and I also happen to have 6 children, one of whom died in an accident; though not an auto accident. If you have personally experienced this tradegy, I don’t have to tell you the horror and if you have not; you don’t want to know. It’s one of those things we think will never happen to us and it’s too unthinkable to contemplate. The point I want to make here though, is that this is not spying at all. The camera only triggers an event for a parent to look at if and only if the driver does something abrupt or risky with your vehicle. In that case, the teen loses 12 seconds of privacy in their life, but this becomes the teachable moment to correct these potentially lethal habit patterns before it is too late. Then the dynamics of human behavior take over and the driver, no longer wanting to share that 12 second slice of their life, drives the vehicle in such a manner as to not trigger the camera at all; thereby preserving their privacy, your peace of mind and everyone’s lives sparing the heartaches some of us have had to endure.
