Arnold Schwarzenegger steps in to counter a court decision that could cut the number of homeschoolers in California by 90%.

The California Governor says he will challenge his state's recent "outrageous" court ruling that requires homeschooled kids to be taught by a credentialed teacher or face possible fines or criminal charges. The ruling on Feb. 28 stunned the state's homeschooling parents, who number more than 160,000, according to USA Today.

"Every California child deserves a quality education, and parents should have the right to decide what's best for their children," Schwarzenegger said in a statement. "And if the courts don't protect parents' rights, then as elected officials, we will."

The minute you take the decision away from the parent - or say they’re “unqualified” in any way - you may as well take the child away to a government run boarding school. That’s the point at which the government says they can parent your child better than you can. Please don’t let that happen. I don’t even home school… We are the beneficiaries of our local public school. But I very strongly defend the right to have made that choice for my children and my family.

Thank you Arnold for protecting the rights of families. Though I do not homeschool my children, I am sick of the government telling us how to raise our kids. For those of you who might be against or on the fence about homeschooling…think of this…if a parent is no longer allowed to homeschool, what right will be taken away next? It may be something that affects YOU!!!
