Shopaholic Mom Leaves Tots Home Alone

Apparently, this woman will go to extremes to shop without her kids.

Sure, we know a trip to Macy's with three toddlers is no walk in the park. But that's no excuse for what 26-year-old Sarah Bracamontes, mother of three, reportedly did Tuesday. She allegedly left her 3-year-old son and 2-year-old twins locked in their rooms while she went to the mall for close to six hours. Neighbors saw the children banging on their windows and called police.

She was arrested Tuesday night, charged with three felony counts of child neglect and was released on $6,000 bail Wednesday morning. Her kids remain in protective custody.

While this woman is clearly off her rocker, what's the cut-off age for leaving kids home alone?

Those poor babies are going to traumatize now. She better not be surprised if they don’t ever trust her in the future.

Maybe there was a sale at Walmart. She’s only human.

OK seriously, I was babysitting at 11 and some kids these days aren’t even ready to be left alone at that age.

I think the legal age is 10.

I don’t think she was punished enough for what she did! I have a 3 year old and there is just no way I’d leave him home alone…not even for 5 minutes.

3 kids under 3…I would have left a lot longer. Kidding!

I think legal age to be left alone is different in every state. They were obviously not old enough! Eeeesh!

DEFINATELY not old enough!! Unless you can trust them to cook themselves, you don’t leave them home alone.

Where was the father when all this happened? Is she just another single mother who wants the world to feel sorry for? What a dumb beotch!

Wow, even as a 20 year old mom of a 2 year old I would NEVER do that. That is terrible. In my parenting class that I took we talked about how old your kids should be before you leave them alone to go out to the store and I think the general age we thought for these days was around 11 or 12.

If she can afford to spend 6 hours shopping, she can afford a babysitter!! What a selfish lady!!

Wow, I don’t like to take trash out without taking my girls because I can’t see my front door to my apartment. Maybe no one ever told her that they have strollers for kids now and the 3 year old can most likely walk. I know my 3 year old, listens to me when we’re at the mall. The 2 year old,not so much, she’s in a stroller.
Thankfully her neighbors saw them.

I think that 3 is definately to you to leave yur kids home alone even for 30 sec. trip to the mailbox. I have a 13 yr old sister who has been staying home alone sine she was 10. In her case I think it was ok. se is the most responsible kid you’ll find and when she was left alne (usually 3 hrs after school) all she did was her homework and watch t.v or play her instruments… she is a great musician. I lie in MA and she is in NY and she would call me on those dyas and we woul tlk forever. Not to mention the neihbors always nw when she was alone just in cae.
I think it depends on the kids maturity level when you strt to get to my sisters age

I think the legal age differs state by state, but if you have to lock them in their room because you can’t trust them to stay where you tell them to stay, there’s your limit. I was home alone at 7, because I could get off the bus, call to let working mom I was home, get my snack, not drink the bleach, and call 911 if I had an emergency. These kids obviously aren’t there yet.

GOD DANG PEOPLE DID NO ONE SEE SHE DIDN’T JUST LEAVE HER KIDS ALONE FOR NEARLY 6 HRS. SHE LOCKED THEM IN A ROOM. NOW WE CAN SAY THAT THE HAD NO ACCESS TO FOOD, WATER, OR A BATHROOM ( POSSIBLY ). NOT TO MENTION THAT EVEN AT 3 YRS OLD KIDS STILL DON’T UNDERSTAND THE WORLD AND THE WAY THINGS WORK. IF YOUR CHILD CANNOT SEE OVER THE COUNTER TOP OR IS UNDER THE AGE OF 10 WHEN THEY CAN TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES. EVEN AT THAT MAKE SURE TO LEAVE PHONE NUMBERS FOR AN EMERGENCY ( POLICE, AMBULENCE, POISON CONTROL, UR CELL, NEIGHBORS)

It pains me to see some of the comments several people have left here! I know Sarah, and 99% of what is listed above simply is not true. In fact, the record of her arrest was erased and the charges were dismissed because the sheriff’s office and news media got the story WRONG. But now, this woman’s reputation is destroyed. And the media doesn’t even bother to follow-up with a retraction. Shameful!
