Have a Hot Date at Home

How to make it feel like a special night out when you have to stay in.

Can't get a sitter? No problem. You can still have a date night once you tuck the kids in bed. Here, our top 5 pointers.

1. Get Cookin' (or at least ordering): If it's warm enough outside, dine al fresco. (Can't hear the kids? Time to break out the old baby monitor.)

2. Watch a flick: Renting a movie can be romantic and private. Turn off the phones and computers, dim the lights, pop some popcorn, and you'll feel like you're in a theater. (Sans obnoxious teenagers and sticky, soda-covered floors.)

3. Create your own happy hour: Enjoy a cocktail together and indulge in a little adult conversation after hours. (But don't talk about bills or all the cleaning you need to do--It's called happy hour for a reason.)

4. Play games (get as naughty as you like). May sound a little cheesy, but you'd be surprised how much fun it is to play Gin, Scrabble, or even Monopoly with your partner. Strip Twister, anyone?

5. Hit the sack. But don't you dare go to sleep! You get the idea.

As long as you set time aside to focus on each other rather than the day-to-day distractions that tend to take up most of your evenings, date night will be a success. And just think of all that cash you're saving on a babysitter!
