It's no secret most families are facing tough financial times. But good news: According to a report on the Today show, it's quite possible you have unclaimed cash out there that's yours for the taking, whether it's from expired bonds, the IRS or other types of refunds sent to a wrong or past address.  Three of Today's hot spots to check:

1. Missingmoney.com - Plug in your name and state and, in seconds, you'll find out if you have unclaimed cash.

2. Expired savings bonds - If you visit Treasury Direct, you can instantly find out how much those savings bonds that are taking up space in your safety deposit box are actually worth.

3. Tax refunds - The IRS says they've got over $100 million in refund checks this year, and yet the average taxpayer winds up leaving nearly $1000 on the table. If you visit the IRS website and click on Where's My Refund?, you'll be able to find out if Uncle Sam will be sending you a check this year.
