Is Your Daughter Naked on MySpace?

Posting racy pics online isn't just for celebrities (unfortunately).

After seeing the recent Miley Cyrus pics that surfaced online, Moms of tweens and teens everywhere are wondering if their own daughters will follow in their role model's footsteps, and how we can move heaven and earth to prevent this from happening? Keep Reading for our expert's advice...

Dr. Lisa Boesky, author of When to Worry: How to Tell if Your Teen Needs Help--and What to Do About It, says:

"When girls hit their teen years, they want attention from boys first and foremost," she says. "That's their number-one goal. And let's face it: Being smart or having a good personality does not get attention like sexy photos do."

And if your daughter suffers from low self-esteem or has a poor (or nonexistent) relationship with her father, Dr. Lisa says she's at even greater risk.

So what's a Mom to do?

Dr. Lisa says it's simple: Ask your daughter to show you her MySpace page.

"If you a see a picture that is questionable, fight the urge to just tell her to take it down," she says. "Instead, ask her, 'What made you decide to put up that picture?' and 'What is it you're trying to tell people with that picture?'

Maybe she feels she's competing with other sexy girls at school, and wants to be seen as sexy, too. That's really the issue--once you deal with that, their need to post photos like this should go down."

We spent a few hours online this morning checking out our teens' friends' MySpace pages. Here are just a few of the questionable images we found.

If you are willing to show your body off on myspace/facebook then your truly willing to do alot more then what is put in a guys mind! You should learn that a face photo can pull just as much attention. its sad what they have to do to have a certain amount of fun! GROW UP, guys are always going to be there, they come and go.. it matters if they truly like you or not! *and to the 13 year qirl who posted naked photos of herself.. YOUR DEGRADING YOURSELF!

I have to agree that this is not the site’s problem but a culture problem. More and more pornographic type content is being normalized by the adults that young people look up. It is confusing to a generation to be chastized for emulating their elders yet see no change in behavior from those elders ..blah blah.. etc. I am not saying that we need to be a generation with our heads in the sand or become hyper anti-sex, but these kinds of attitudes are demeaning and dehumanising and far from what a true “sex positive” culture should be. a side note: it is really backwards to only monitor a daughters’ online activity. Maybe if there was less demand for these photos then the supply would dwindle. anyways (a year later..)we need to teach our children that sex and sexuality is a healthy part of life, but it needs to remain just that: healthy

I’m a 15 year old girl. It’s an invasion of privacy to hack into someone’s MySpace. I don’t do any of that stuff, and I don’t understand why everyone must be punished for something that just a couple of people do. Why don’t guys get the same bad reputation? I’ve seen plenty of guys with shirtless pictures.
