Is this father-daughter PDA okay?
When this video surfaced of Miley and father Billy Ray cuddling at the controversial Vanity Fair photo shoot, we didn't know what to think. Seeing Miley snuggle with her dad and lay on his lap with a come-hither look on her face just felt ... well, check it out.
Is it okay for a father and teen daughter to be physical like this when showing affection? We asked family therapist Dr. Pamela Varady for her take.
"Overall it's missing the innocence you expect. It would be cute and innocent if Miley were in flannel pajamas and he was in a long sleeve shirt. But because of the provocative outfits and Billy Ray's sexual look, I found it slightly inappropriate. That said, it would truly be inappropriate if his intention was bad but this is probably not the case."

Where is Mom in this girl’s life/career? And it certainly did not seem appropriate from a spectators view.

Just first off, let me say, that I love both Miley and her dad, but yes, this was very innapropriate. I know that Miley and her Dad are close, but this was done wrong. It should have had both her parents in the video, and they must of known that people were going to comment on it.

I think what is wrong is that people don’t have anything better to do in their lives than be consumed by celebrity gossip. Also, if someone took a photo of your child’s father with your chold would you want them to assume your husband was having inappropriate thoughts about your child. Come on people - use your heads.

She needs to be separated from her parents and sent somewhere. Annie Leibovitz needs to be sent to a mental hospital or prison. Miley Cyrus’ parents should be taken for counseling.

I think it looks like Miley was just trying to strike a “model” pose and people are interpreting it as a “come hither” look. I don’t like the video and pictures, but I think it’s crazy that this is being blown up like this.

First i want to say that no…i dont really see anything wrong here. 2nd i want to say that face that miley is making the “come hither” look…if you look at all the other pics they are taking what a 15 year old and having her make faces that are too old for her, then you put her with her dad and tell her to keep the same faces up..yea its gunna look wrong. i think the photo shoot all around was wrong because of miley age..i dont think there is anything going on..i think its a 15 year old girl who is being told to make “sex faces” and a father who lets his daughter pose nakes and call it art at 15!!!! I think its just a lot of bad decisions for her career..not anything more than that

I saw a father holding his child. As parents you don’t see your child as others do, I doubt he even considered those pics could be deemed inappropriate in any way. Thats his baby! his little girl. Can you imagine how your husband would feel if some one made the suggestion that he was holding/looking at his child inappropriately. Its love, its affection, and honestly if more people were more loving and attentive to their children they’d be the better off for it! I think its disgusting that people are reading so much into this.

I think cuddling in the privacy of your own family home is fine. It a public photo is looks strange. To me the shots of Miley and Billy look like an episode of “Make Me a Supermodel”. That being said- my husband and four year old are happily cuddling in the next room right now.

If you look at Billy the whole time… he’s just straightfaced… it’s HER expressions that are making it a bit creepy. And you know it’ because people are constantly pushing those looks out of her. He just sat there while his daughter put all the moves on the camera.

as soon as this country sees a father loving his daughter it is interpreted as inappropriate and wrong..what the hell is wrong with you people? is it so wrong to have a close relationship with your father? are your hearts so unaccustomed to emotion that every ounce of affection is interpreted as sexual? wow

Okay, America. Get your dirty minds out of the gutter! This is a father with love and respect for his teenage daughter. She’s just growing up. They are NOT acting like lovers! There is NOTHING even remotely provocative happening here!! In this world of hypersensitivity to sexual predators, it’s understandable that people would look for inapproriate parenting. But THIS ain’t it. Dads everywhere: Don’t stop hugging your daughters and showing them affection just because they are growing up. No they won’t always be able to wear those flannel pajamas. They have to start wearing big-girl clothes. But they still need you to love them.

I think Annie L. should have done the photo shoot more tastefully and appropriate for a 15 year old with a sqeaky clean reputation, she had to know what she was going to accomplish with the end results. I think she wanted some controversy/publicity to put her name back out there. The innocent love and adoration this Father and Daughter seem to have for each other is wonderful. Have you hugged your child today?

I think Billy is just a loving/doting father and folk that think it any other way need to talk to a shrink. “Have you hugged your kid today?”

To me, the picture looks staged and unnatural. There is something dead and unreal about their eyes and expressions. The picture of Miley without a top makes her look like a rape victim. Why must arty photos be dark and filled with innuendo? If this is how Annie Liebowitz sees them, they should be insulted. During the shoot, Billy Ray looks like he’s not there, like he’s tired and bored. He needs to pay attention. When she was asked to remove her shirt and bra, someone on her staff should have intervened. It’s way too soon for Miley to change her brand. And when she makes the transition to adulthood, why not let her be a wholesome adult. Why does “adult” have to equal “slutty.” This reminds me of the outrage I felt when I received a senior picture of my neice posing in her pajamas. It was creepy. I asked my mother why she was allowed to do that, and Mom said, “Oh, it’s just something all the girls do now, posing with their stuffed animals. They give them to their friends.” I have a suggestion to all women who do photo shoots. Take a stand! Refuse to remove your clothes. Refuse to lie down, lie back, make a pouty mouth, unbutton your shirt, pose with anything that resembles a bed sheet, or do anything else you wouldn’t do in your normal public life. Women are beautiful, multidimensional people, not just sex objects.

I don’t feel it is creepy. I think it is obvious that Billy Ray loves his daughter very much and she him. Why does everything have to be made into something sexually inappropriate? I actually enjoyed watching the photo shoot and I say Hurray for Billy Ray and Miley. At least they are not like Britney Spears and her parents.

i am a father and i wouldnt pose with my daughter like that. These rich celebs are out of touch with what normal people do. They can make a family portrait look great and with good taste. But honestly, who cares, they dont pay my bills so if they want to make some incest porn, let them. im done reading about their dumb lives.
