Having a Cow...Literally

A revolutionary procedure that involves mixing human and animal embryos could lead to a breakthrough in stem cell research.
The phrase "I feel like a cow" could take on a whole new meaning if scientists in the U.K. have anything to do with it. According to the London Times, they've developed an embryo made up of human DNA and a cow's egg. While the resulting embryo, which is being called a "cybrid," is actually 99.9% human, and it was created for the purposes of stem cell research—not to be implanted into a woman.
Do you think developing human-animal embryos is a breakthrough or is this just plain wrong?
i’m going to have to say that.. it scares the crap out of me. you do not mix animals and humans together!
yeah i agree, i’m all for research to help mankind, but something about this feels wrong. this is the stuff that horror movies are made of.
These things aren’t going to be grown, so there’s nothing horror movie about it. They’re not doing it to play mad scientist, or “playing god,” or to create scary human-animal hybrids that they’re going to grow up into adults to form some weird monster that’s going to turn on us all and take over the world. This could lead to a scientific breakthrough that could save so many human lives. What if your child was sick, and there was no known cure, but this research could lead to one? How could you say no to that? Or to your fellow human beings? Would you say no just because this is “weird” or “eerie” or “scary” to you?
It’s the unknown, so of course it’s going to be weird or scary to some people—especially if they don’t understand it—but I think it’s amazing. There’s so, so much potential in stem cell research.
Now, if they were going to actually grow these cybrids in women and produce actual children, then yeah, obviously that’s going to be a big “no” from me. But they’re not. Not even close. It’s just for research.
sick- now we will be able to grow little cow people to experiment on. And we abort our own babies because we think they are blobs? Get real!
This is a huge waste of time! Shoudnt scientist be doing something usefull, like hmm i dont know..? finding actual cures to save some lives. Rather then playing round with human cow emrios..

OMG! When are we gonna stop playing the mad scientist! I’m all for research, but something about this feels eerie and just weird!
