From Exotic Entertainer to Teacher

Should a former escort be allowed to teach school?

71055974.jpg

Virginia Beach is in an uproar because a local high school teacher has been linked to an escort service company.

It was just discovered that at least eight escort ads in the Yellow Pages list numbers belonging to the 33-year-old social studies instructor. Oops. The teacher insisted she left the escort business two years ago before she started teaching and says what she did before she got her job is her personal business. Some parents disagree and want her fired pronto.

What's your take?

Well, if she was willing to do that at any time in her life, I would not consider her a good role model for any child - atleast in a daily environment. I could see her using it as a way to reach kids if she’s changed, but I wouldn’t want her influencing my child every day…

Why would anybody care what she did before she became a teacher?

She has done something she is not proud of. Who hasn’t?

She took the time to go to college, to change her attitudes (obviously), to place herself in a better position to help herself and others.

She might be a better teacher of some of life’s lessons than those who live in little towers and glass houses.

The lessons I thinking of
- stand up for yourself
- work for what you want
- no matter what your background, you can do better.

My hats off to her. Attagirl, don’t let anyone push you around.

Rick

ps. my best friend is an ex-stripper. She’s the best mom I’ve ever seen.

How wonderful that she uplifted herself and is now a teacher. Everyone tells you to try to do better and she has definitely done that, but who are the sanctimonious people who now don’t want there children to be taught by her. Do you think the children care? She is just a teacher to them not a stripper. Good for her. Congratulations!

OMG! How great that the parents want to send the message that once you mess up you are finished! Apparently these morally sound community members don’t buy into a great model for being able to turn an undesireable situation around. They also apparently do not buy into forgiving and forgetting. I am so thankful it was Jesus who talked to the woman at the well and not the fine lovng people of Virginia Beach.

Why do people act like someone who does adult things (that they wouldn’t want their children to know about) is parading those things around and advocating them to children? How many teachers have “Playboy” or “Penthouse” in their home, or ever get drunk? Do they do that at school, or tell kids to do it? No. Much less someone who used to do something and has now stopped.

I agree with the poster above who said that, (if one of her students brings it up) she can use her experience as an example of how anyone can succeed and do better, and of how even people who have done “bad” things can care about children and want to help them. But if the parents leave her alone, I bet it won’t come up!

Tell you what: Go to a strip club and ask any of those girls/ladies what they plan to be doing. You won’t find them telling you it’s a career. They’ll tell you they’re earning money for college or some better life. There are probably a number of future teachers (and pediatricians and coaches and counselors) out there.

So, yes, it’s great to better herself, but I think the biggest issue that some of you have missed is that the ads are still present in the yellow pages supposedly 2 years after she stopped being an escort…yellow pages cost money to advertise in and it’s normally a year long advertisment so how can it be explained that she USED to do it, yet it’s still advertised 2 years later.

I question the integrity and honesty of that situation.

This is just another reason teachers need to be paid more. Then they wouldn’t HAVE to have ads in the Yellow Pages.

Who cares even if she is still doing it? What she does outside of school hours is her business. She could still be a great teacher! She should be judged on her performance at her job as a teacher and that’s it.

There is nothing wrong with having a second job in todays society a teachers salary is not enough to make it in and i give her credit. Is she doing this during school hours or advertising with your kids????I highly doubt it.
In todays economy and at the prices going up daily maybe others should do it and get off welfare and maybe my tax dollars wouldnt be spent on the lazy and unwilling to contribute to society
you go and do what must be done just make sure ya pay taxes like all us hard working americans do.I would not be afraid or ashamed to send my 4 children to your class cause you show me your willing to (GIT-R-DUN) no matter what.

I would think that as long as she was not still in that line of work, and she is not currently or previously been a child rapist, then she is probably ok. The parents of the students in her class should monitor what the kids are being taught, then decide what’s right for their family.
