Why Mommy Has a New Face

A plastic surgeon pens a book to explain cosmetic surgery to kids.
Just in time for Mother's Day! A new book called My Beautiful Mommy by plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Salzhauer, is aimed at kids 4-7 and explains, step-by-step, why Mommy is inexplicably covered
with bandages.
No, she hasn't been in a terrible car accident, she just thought she wasn't pretty enough, so she went to a nice doctor who cut her with a knife and sewed her back up.
While this might be a good tool to explain what could be a confusing experience for a young child, just what lessons are we teaching our kids about body image if Mom spends more time with a plastic surgeon than she does with Daddy? Well, at least the book isn't narrated by a couple of fun furry characters named Nip
and Tuck.
Do you think a book explaining plastic surgery to kids is a good idea?
Interesting. Wonder what it says in the self-esteem chapter … wait … there is a chapter on self-esteem, right?
I’d rather there be a book on why kids shouldn’t beat up other kids. That seems more important than creating body issues. Hey, I’m just sayin!
Is there a section on boob surgery in there?
Yeah, how about a book about loving the way you naturally are. How bout that?
I’d rather buy the book on why mommy doesn’t need to look like a Barbie doll to be happy.

yeah, i think so. kids these days can bombard you with uberly weird questions that a kid could ever dare ask. at least this book would somehow help mommies (& daddies) explain why they have to change some itsy bitsy parts of their bods.
