Arrested for Prom Dress

Would you let your teen wear this to prom?

As first reported by khouTV, high-schooler Marche Taylor's unique style not only got her bounced from the formal event, but handcuffed too. A regular teen dating event turned unusual when the high school senior showed up to her Houston prom half naked and she was forbidden to enter for violating the dress code policy. After the high-schooler demanded her money back, an argument ensued and police were called, leading to her arrest.

At least her parts are covered. I work in a retail store where girls younger than her are wearing much less. As for getting arrested! Thats just crazy!! I would have cause a huge scene for that!

Almost every school across the whole country (that I know of) has some sort of dress code for everyday school wear as well as for school dances. I don’t believe that she should have been allowed in because obviously the outfit she chose to wear revealed way too much skin. Some people on here are bringing up the question of “how could the mother/parents let her out of the house like that?!” It might have been possible that the parents never even say the outfit their daughter had picked out for the event. They might not have seen the outfit because perhaps she got ready at a friends house and went to the prom from there. That’s just one possible answer to the question of how the parents didn’t know about what their child was wearing. Either way I’m not defending what she chose to wear or the actions that she chose to make (getting disorderly). The school could have given her the money back ( in my opinion) because of the fact that she did not get to attend the event and perhaps if they would have given her the money back when she first asked/demanded then the whole situation would not have gotten out of control, but who knows what could have happened besides the people who were ACTUALLY involved. I don’t think that it should be assumed that there is no father in the home because unless you personally know the girl and her family then how can you know whether or not there is a male role model present. I think that the issue comes down to the media and how it portrays fashion & women in society. The “cool” and “sexy” thing to do according to the media is to have on the hottest/newest/trendiest of fashions in order to have the best social status and I think that is sad that most people think their worth comes from outer beauty rather than from self-esteem.

some of you all are blaming the parents but someone mentioned how the girl changed the dress that the mother paid for .. and also u can teach ur child all the class and respectin the world but at the end of the day they are going to do what they want…. at my prom in 2005 there were a few females with similar revealing outfits on.. they all look trashy but that’s how it is.. i didn’t know there was a dress code but they should have mentioned a dress code for the prom if they didnt.

I’m 18, and I would never want to step out the house with something like that on. Understandable it has alot to do with her mother but she dosent seem to care much about herself to want to have some “childs sheets” around her.

I think this girl is so beutiful 4her 2 dress like that you can look sexy with clothes on.Now not all the blame is on her i think the parents have to see how your kids are dressing. She just needs to think a little more and take her acctions more responsible she is not 5 yrs old she must think a little more.

this is why we have so many teens out of control i mean one of the reason she know that was not the way to dress to go to a prom but if you are going out to be a hoe of the night dress like that girl you and your guardian should be in JAIL STAY AWAY FROM GOOD GIRLS PLEASE EXSPEICALLY MY GRANDBABIES YOU SHOULD BE A SHAME OF YOURSELF YOU WILL NEVER BE A ROLE MODELS FOR ANYONE UNTIL YOU GROW UP GO BACK TO SCHOOL ANOTHER 12 YEARS

Whether the parent paid for a different dress or not isn’t the case. Where was the parent when this young woman walked out the door to leave for prom. Not to mention creativity aside any self-respecting young woman would not be caught dressed like this unless she was on a street corner looking for something more. Unfortunately our society encourages young teens and women to dress in such a manner as to attract negative attention making it seem a positive which it is not. Less is not more in this case unless it is less shown which allows for mystery and makes people wonder. No need to show it all.

I’m sorry, I read that comment from the family friend. What kind of parent of a daughter would not be there every step of the way taking pics? I did & I have boys! It’s a parent’s JOB to know what their child is doing at all times!

At my prom there were low cut dresses and cut outs at the stomach. No different. Does anyone realize, shes a *gasp* teenager.?!? Pushing limits is normal. And doesnt everyone look back on their prom dress and go YUCK? Its just a dress, and there are far worse things a girl can do.

The dress is not something i would have liked for my daughter to wear, however you see models with less on and girls in videos wearing the same type of clothes. I’m sure some of the ones speaking so harshly look at both, other wise they would not know what “Hookers”look or dress like. She should not have been detained, and should have gotten her money back.

Im a mother of 3 , im 45 and i think sometimes the kids take it to far but at the same time to each his or her own… If the parent of that child thought it was ok , well then let them be.

She is giving a bad name to African American women and just women in general. This is why we can’t be taken seriously and are only viewed as sex objects.

she was going to the prom.I see things this way, she was wearing something that she designed. She was only displaying what she created. If the school did not like what she was wearing they were in the right not to let her enter the prom, but they should have giving her money back.As far as the parents goes this report do not speck of them therefor no one should be commenting about them. They could have simply been supporting her fashion creation.
