Handcuffed Student Fights Back

Marche Taylor speaks out to the Moms who commented on her recent arrest.

When we posted the story of a teen girl who was arrested after wearing a risque dress to her prom, moms wanted answers. We went straight to the source and got a first-person account of what really happened the night the high school senior got bounced from the big night.

Mom Comment:

The radio stations are talking about the dress, but no one has asked, "Where is the father?"

ML:
Did your mother or father see this dress prior to the prom?

Marche: My grandmother was at the house when I was getting dressed. I don't live with my parents. She didn't think anything was wrong with it. She thought I looked pretty for the prom.

Mom comment:

There was no need for an arrest. Would you have wanted your CHILD arrested if they chose to make the wrong choice in FASHION? Contrary to how she is dressed, she is still a child. She's dressed no differently than the women in the videos that you may allow your teens to watch.

ML: Did you learn anything from this incident?

Marche: I learned when it has something to do with the school, you shouldn't dress like that. I didn't draw or design my dress exactly like that, it came out that way, but it's not what I initially wanted. I don't regret wearing it at all. I am good at drawing, and liked what I designed. I want to be a model and I like drawing what I want to wear.

Mom comment:
This was this young lady's prom; her dress was not so provocative to get her kicked out of it. There are many reasons why a young lady would find that dress attractive and suitable; for one, take a look at the role models and what they are wearing. Why don't we focus on more important teen issues, such as suicide, teen pregnancy, and violence, and take the focus off such petty things such as this dress? The complainers need to find something better to do.

ML: Do you agree people should find better things to tackle than what you wore to your prom?

Marche: I agree. I think the school should focus on educating students and not waste their time on little issues like my dress or the boys who wear sagging pants. My arrest wasn't about my dress, it was about me wanting my money back. I didn't have a chance to go to the prom. I am a senior getting ready to graduate next week and I don't have any memories, except in handcuffs. I just wanted to go to my prom, and now I missed out.

Do you think she should've been arrested?

I don’t think that the dress was appropriate for any age. As one blogger commented, unfortunately the models of fashion have lowerecd the standards of acceptable dress that “more flesh” revealed equates with better dressed. The sad part excluding the arrestd is that if the grandmother approved of this, what other morals and decision tactics have been okayed for this teen. As far as the arrest, whatever happened should not have been permitted to escalate to the inclusion of the police. This is defintely the fault of the “adult???” supervision at the prom. Again with examples such as this, these teens are headed for trouble. The mentality of the average police was demonstrated here. Cuff em is there motto. We aas parents and adults worry about the prices of gas, food and other things to provide for our children and send them out daily to be met and educated by inadequately prepared people. It is frightening to think of the future.

She shouldn’t have arrested but rather told to return home and change her outfit to something that is not so revealing. Arresting her serves no purpose other than to humiliate her (or give her the glory she was looking for by wearing the outfit).

She looked like she got that dress at “Ho’s ‘R Us”. All her friends might have liked the dress but they knew what to wear and they got in the prom. And if you checked out the story at KHOU’s website, you’ll find out she wasn’t arrested for the dress (if you can call it a dress). She was arrested because she made a scene demanding her money back and wouldn’t leave (No way they could have given her a refund right there. They could have refunded it Monday at school.) She said they told her she could go home or go to jail. She CHOSE not to go home. That’s why her only prom picture is being escorted out in handcuffs. If you don’t want to be treated like a ‘ho, don’t act (or dress) like one.

The dress was a once in a life time expression of a day that is completely voluntary. This teen paid money to attend the “prom”, she should be able to wear what she wants. Our schools are becoming more like prisons every day. What ever happened to her first amendment right of freedom of speech. The adults in charge of the event are the ones that should be arrested for fraud.

Well, first of all, the cops definitly should have been called. With the punks as teens today, you can’t be too careful. “where’s the dad” WHO CARES. Very few are around in their childs lives anymore. NO she shouldn’t have dressed like that to her SCHOOL event. HELLO, a little common sense please. And, anyone who causes a seen is removed by the poliece, in handcuffs, I’ve seen it before. STOP jumping to predjudice and race. that’s what’s wrong with us today. give it a rest. jeez. let my kids try to go somewhere with a girl dressed like that. I don’t think so. TEEN PREGNANCY is an issue, so yeah, there was an appropriate issue to be delt with. How about disturbing the peace when she caused a scene? I woulda called the police too. How could the grandmother let her out in that? Get new glasses granny.

THIS GIRL WAS ARRESTED FOR HER BAD BEHAVIOR WHEN SHE WAS TOLD THAT THE DRESS DID NOT MEET DRESS CODE WHICH A SCHOOL HAS THE RIGHT TO ENFORCE. SHE WAS TOLD THAT SHE COULD HAVE HER MONEY BACK BUT NOT RIGHT AT THAT MOMENT. SHE CHOOSE POOR BEHAVIOR AS A RESULT OF THIS AND THAT’S WHY SHE WAS ARRESTED. IT WAS HER BAHAVIOR AND POOR ATTITUDE WHEN THE OFFICIALS AT THE SCHOOL DID NOT DO AS SHE WANTED THEM TO DO.

I think 1) this is an important issue, because the way someone dresses can be an undertone into who they become or what they become involved with-sex, drugs, violence. it is important. 2) the media should be fair in recognizing that she wasn’t arrested for wearing the dress. she was arrested for wanting her money back. BUT in order to get the readers they want, they need to manipulate. so basically, i think what the media has done to distort the story is just as bad as the girl wearing the dress. as a college student, i think that young ladies and women need to take more value in their selves. marche, if you read this-please, please consider making yourself into a woman of dignity and class who won’t settle. you deserve that. :)

If anyone bothered to read the story, you’d know she wasn’t arrested for wearing that dress (though the way she looks, it should be a crime). She was arrested for allegedly causing a disturbance when they wouldn’t allow her in. Anyway, she was probably wearing that dress, because she was coming from work.

If my daughter was to wear something like that, not only myself but her grandmother and her father would never let her walk out of the house like that. That kind of whatever it is, is for bedtime, not a prom. She isn’t even covered in anything. I guess if you want your child to be sexually active, get raped or have sex, then this is the answer. Me personally, I would want my child to finish college and go on to bigger and better things before she wears something like that. That kind of thing like I said before is for bedtime.

I don’t think she should have been arrested, but she SURELY had to know how whoreish and cheap she looked! She sure didn’t look like she was going to her prom, she was dressed to be on second street, prostituting herself! A teenage girl should have had more pride in herself than to actually show up at her SCHOOL PROM dressed like THAT! And her GRANNY thought she looked “pretty”? Is Granny a retired hooker herself?

She was probably arrested because she was horribly ugly. People as groteque as her, should not wear revealing clothes, they should cover themselves as much as possible

that dress? reflects her need for attention, she wants to be a model or designer or both? ok she’s tall but that’s no excuse for that rag she has on who in their right mind would hmm, drape, drop, wrap something like that on one’s body and go outside, i’m sure her loud attitude is what got her shackled, her poor grandma probably just nodded her head as she left to her ‘prom’, knowing not to say anything that might upset her and get her going.
