China revises one-child policy in wake of earthquake: Parents whose child was killed, injured or seriously disabled in the devastating earthquake earlier this month are exempt from the one-child policy and can obtain a government certificate to have another child. More than 65,000 people are dead and 23,000 remain missing as the search and recovery effort continues.

Director/actor Sydney Pollack dies of cancer: The Oscar-winning director of The Way We Were, Out of Africa and Tootsie died on Monday with his family by his side after a battle with cancer. He was 73 years old. George Clooney, Pollack's co-star in Michael Clayton said, "Sydney made the world a little better, movies a little better, and even dinner a little better."

Coffee and tea don't increase risk of breast cancer: A long-term study found no link between caffeinated beverages and the rate of breast cancer in women. Researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health who followed a group of women over a 22-year period said "coffee and tea are remarkably safe beverages when used in moderation."
