Will 'Sex' Take Down Indy?

Carrie and the girls could be the foe Indiana Jones cannot defeat. There is a whole lot of buzz--including around out office--about this weekend's box office battle!

Perhaps the ultimate chick flick of all-time--Sex is poised for a strong opening weekend performance bolstered by the "girl's night out" phenomenon. The box office experts at Media By Numbers say weekend predictions are landing somewhere in the mid-$30 millions to the low $40 millions, which would put the film right in line with other movies of this ilk. However, this seems to be a special case with a much higher than average excitement level and interest among female audiences than for almost any other such film in recent memory.

The industry will be waiting with bated breath as the results come in--you know women will flex their considerable box-office muscle in the nation's theaters this weekend. Of course the competition will be fierce from Dr. Indiana Jones--continuing the success of Memorial Day weekend and the odds on favorite to take the weekend. Assuming a 50% drop, the film would still generate over $50 million during the weekend and provide a healthy dose of competition for Carrie Bradshaw and company.
