Sixth Graders' Sex Tape?

Monday, May 19, 2008
filed under: tween & teen logic

A Connecticut school is investigating an incident in which  middle school students allegedly recorded a video of their sexual activity while in class. Six students have been expelled.

Pulaski Middle School officials learned about the recording Wednesday, but have not viewed it and don't know when it happened, or the ages of those involved. The taping allegedly occurred while a substitute teacher was on duty, and she was unaware of any inappropriate activity. Several students allegedly watched the sex act while one recorded it with a cell phone. Unfortunately, this story comes as no surprise--it was the subject of our very first momlogic investigation where we explored this trend of sex in schools. Our national survey revealed that one in five kids has witnessed sex at school. Click below to see our reports.

My best friend is a high school teacher, and she has had to pull apart students having sex in the stairwell before. Their school also recently just fired a male teacher for having a series of sexual relationships with students over a period of 4 years. It’s not surprising that teens (and pre-teens) are so interested in sex when our society and media are so overly sexualized these days. It really frightens me to wonder what it will be like when my baby is in sixth grade. I thought it was bad 10 years ago when I was in high school, but it’s so much worse now!
