Top 5: Memorial Day Childcare Solutions

Desperate situations call for desperate measures.

Schools are closed for Memorial Day, but that doesn't mean our jobs shut down. Here are some momlogic ideas of what to do with your kids when they're out of school, but Mama's got to work.

1) Tell your boss you're a distant relative of Ulysses S. Grant and must honor your Memorial Day family tradition of staying home and reenacting a Civil War battle in the backyard.

2) The day before Memorial Day, keep your kids up all night until you have to go to work. They'll safely sleep the day away under your desk.

3) Bring your children to work disguised as tiny employees. If your co-workers are suspicious, tell them you're training them for their jobs.

4) Sharing is nice. It's what we teach our children. If you have a friend who has a nanny, tell her it's her turn to share or you're going to pull her hair.

5) Embed a microchip GPS tracking device under their skin, and let 'em run wild!

Those are very stupid answers for a very common problem that some parents have. We all don’t have Monday to Friday 9-5 jobs. Some of us do work weekends and holidays. DH and I worked opposite shifts from DD’s K-5 to 12th grade years.

How about planning ahead? Hasn’t Memorial Day been the last Monday of May for about 100 years! As I type, both my daughters are waiting for friends to come and “play”. I’m no idiot. I know I’m child care for the parents today. But I care about these kids and I know their parents would not hesitiate to leave them home alone. To those parents..who (what) are your priority? Actions speak louder than words.
