Yo Mama!

Comedian Eddie Griffin allegedly beats up man who disrespected his mother.

A guy named Vince Beane is suing comedian Eddie Griffin for allegedly beating him up after he was "wrongfully accused of disrespecting [Eddie Griffin's] Momma," reports TMZ. Beane says the production company he worked for asked him to make lodging arrangements for Eddie's mom. But Eddie wasn't happy with the hotel and allegedly proceeded to assault Beane for booking his mom such a cheap, trashy room. Beane is seeking unspecified damages.

Why does it often come to blows when people (especially guys) defend their mothers? Family therapist Rosanne Tobey, L.P.C., says, "Our parents, particularly our mothers, are our most primary attachment as human beings. Many times a mother may be the only stable and unconditionally loving person in someone's life. That is a very powerful bond.

We all have a tendency to want to protect the people we love, so when someone disparages your mother or treats her badly or unfairly, it can feel quite personal, which is why antagonizing someone by putting their mother down works. Obviously, not all people are sensitive to mother put-downs, but if you are dealing with someone who is, tread carefully or you may get more than you bargained for with that 'yo mama' joke."

What would you do if someone put down your mama?

I would go ballistic. I totally understand how someone could go off if your mother was put down in some way. DON’T MESS WITH SOMEONE’S MAMA!
